Types of Braces
There are several types of braces that can be used to give you a straight and beautiful smile. Learn more about the different types of braces:
Metal (stainless steel) braces:
Stainless steel braces are the most popular type for children and teenagers. One reason these braces are so popular is that they are smaller and more comfortable than ever. Made of high-grade stainless steel, metal braces straighten your teeth using metal brackets and arch wires. There are numerous types of metal braces all of which work well in the hands of an experienced orthodontist. Self ligating brackets offer faster treatment at the beginning but often fail to finish properly, taking extra time. Twin brackets move teeth more slowly but allow for full control of the process, allowing us to finish your orthodontics on time with a beautiful, broad smile.
Ceramic (clear) braces:
Their big advantage of clear braces is that they are barely noticeable. As they are made of monocrystalline, clear ceramic, they are more fragile than steel braces. Translucent braces are used only on the front teeth (usually upper) and accompany steel braces on back teeth and most lower teeth for added strength.
Ceramic braces are used mainly on older teenagers and adult patients who have cosmetic concerns. While they are visually less prominent, they do require more attention to oral hygiene as they are larger and are more brittle than their metal counterparts.
Invisalign uses a series of invisible, removable, and comfortable aligners that no one can tell you’re wearing. So, you can smile more during treatment as well as after. Invisalign is made with 3-D computer imaging technology and has been proven effective. Trusting an orthodonist for your invisalign treatment is the first step toward a more beautiful smile.
You wear each set of aligners for about 2 weeks, removing them only to eat, drink, brush, and floss. As you replace each aligner with the next in the series, your teeth will move — little by little, week by week — until they have straightened to the final position Dr. Stevens has prescribed.
